Through the darkness little boys and girls walk miles alone,
In pursuit of happiness searching for a place they could call home,
Born from deception,
Raised in love cruelty,
Succumbing to mental impressions,
Dragging burden over needles and shrapnel resulting in depression,
Habits turn to addictions trying to maintain is what can happen to you,
Some are brought up on common courtesy,
But I wasn’t reaching for hand outs I rose from adversity,
On my knees at night recovering from the days life lessons,
Asking GOD to keep me grounded and remind me to always count my blessings,
Incriminating perpetrators attempt to cloud my dreams and blur my vision,
But I have a destiny set out on a greater mission,
Children in the streets
hungry fighting over scrapes so I turned my poetry into literary substance to give back.

Thank You By Matthew P. Hayman
Thank
you; for judging me before you got to know me, and assuming that my clothes and
shoes defined me as a person
Thank
you; for following me around your store before I’d gotten a chance to look
Thank
you; for dismissing my creativity because of your lack of comprehension
Thank
you; for failing me and highlighting my inadequacy on the subject with your
almighty red maker and quick dismissal
Thank
you; for the call back, I appreciated the sarcasm, degrading questions and bare
minimum “Minimum Wage” offer, the interview was great….and for that, “I’ll call
you back!
Most
importantly thank you for your contribution; in developing the person I am
today, for instilling my independence, conditioning and often testing my faith
Now
I’m able to focus on the future leaving what was in the past….counting all my
blessings in every lesson….motivated by disillusion my potential run vast
