My dear Friend Wendy asked me to write an article about water. Water? Yes, water. As most of us are headed into the warmer weather soon it will be time to uncover and show the world what they have been missing. If you kept that New Year's resolution then perhaps you have shed a few pounds and can't wait to show off the new you. If you are like most you are coming to grips with the fact that you cannot hide under a winter coat forever and now must face the music, the real Rite of Spring!
Fret not you are not alone and the best advice anyone ever gave me to help me on the way to a slimmer me was to remember to drink plenty of water. Just what does this miracle do? Well, to name a few it keeps you hydrated makes your cells nice and fluffy so that you do not dry out like a raisin. It also helps you rid your body of toxins that build up in your system due to your body’s natural metabolism. It helps you fight hunger when you are trying to avoid eating those extra calories (notice I did not say dieting, more on that later). Most importantly it is the best and cheapest beauty treatment you can give yourself.
Man or woman, we all need water. It is recommended that you drink 8 - 8 oz. glasses of water a day. That may seem like a lot especially if you use a small container, but use a 1/2 liter bottle and you only need to drink 4 of them. Here's a pointer, start each day with one 1/2 liter of water. Kick off the day by getting that first drink out of the way. You don't like plain water? Try a water enhancer or any non -calorie, non -caffeine drink it will do the same job. Herbal tea or decaf coffee will work too. I have a favorite mug and it holds 20 oz. I fill it with water pick my favorite tea and heat it up. I almost feel indulgent because I am doing it for myself at a time of day before my family has started theirs.
I have my second 1/2 liter with breakfast and catch another one during the morning. Always have a bottle of zero calorie beverages ready and you will have no reason to drink from it. By lunch I am well on my way to finishing my 4th 1/2 liter and my 8 – 8 ouncers are done. But I do not stop there. I find that the more water I drink the more I want to keep my body strong and healthy. I average about 3 Liters a day (6, 1/2 liters) which when taken with meals keeps me well hydrated and my body flushed out. Since I am actively working to remove some excess weight the extra water is really helping to make a difference at the scale.
Keeping hydrated, drinking plenty of water is one of the most important and best things you can do to help you stay or get healthy.
One thing I noticed all this drinking makes me get up out of my chair and go to the bathroom more frequently. It may be my imagination but the sense of urgency makes me active. I have to move quickly to get to where I need to go in a hurry and no one can deny the power of a P-P dance.
